Where Midsummer Meets The Stage

Where Midsummer Meets The Stage

Our Midsummer Celebration is nigh. So, with an aim to entice and elucidate, here’s a bit about the theme of our second annual summer fundraising event.
Midsummer is a celebration of the season. Steeped in pagan tradition with Christian influence, the festival marked on or near the summer solstice is a time to delight in the wonders of nature, light and connection.
The celebration holds particular importance in Sweden, where Midsommar has existed for at least 500 years. At Swedish festivals communities raise and dance around a maypole; don flower crowns; sing songs; and dine on pickled herring, boiled new potatoes and strawberry cake.
The event has always been infused with a sense of magic. Through the centuries revelers built bonfires to drive away dragons, witches and evil spirits. They draped homes and barns with greenery thought to possess the power to heal and deliver good fortune. They collected flowers for luck and performed love spells to conjure future partners.
At our Midsummer Celebration, we’ll forego the bonfire for obvious reasons. But, to a bevy of festival traditions, good food and good fun, we’ll add the magic of theater. With OpenStage Company Members on hand, this Midsummer event will be a veritable feast of frivolity. It’s a perfect match, really!

Because, like a seasonal gathering, theater brings people together and creates connection through a shared experience. More than that, theater fosters empathy, offers new perspectives and encourages self-reflection.
There’s magic in the immediacy of live theater. It moves us and offers the sort of immersive escapism anyone keeping up with the news of the day would welcome.
For more than 50 years, OpenStage has nourished the artistic spirit of our community, welcoming audiences into an intimate, creative space and giving them something to take back out into the world.
Our Second Annual Midsummer Celebration fundraising event, June 14, from 3 to 7 p.m., at The Center for Creativity in Fort Collins, is a unique opportunity to partake of the pleasures of the season and help us fulfill our role in a vibrant arts community. Please join us!
