The Story

MICHAEL TRAVIS RISNER has been performing professionally up and down the Front Range for 30 years. He holds a BA in music and theatre and a Master’s of Music from Colorado State University. He is very happy to be returning home to OpenStage after a 20 year absence.

JONATHAN PAUL, sometimes known as “JP”, is a lively, versatile actor who recently graduated from Colorado State University, receiving Bachelor’s Degrees in both Theatre Performance and Computer Science. His past credits include Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher, Somebody in Everybody, and Peter Shaw in Silent Sky among others. Outside of acting, he enjoys video games, films, and running Dungeons and Dragons games for his friends, all of which act as engaging creative outlets to inspire his craft. He would like to thank his fiancée, Anther, as well as his family, friends and peers for their unending support, love and the joy they bring into his life

CHRISTINA MARIE OLSON is a versatile actor and artist with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she specialized in acting, makeup, hair, and costuming. This past year, she worked with OpenStage as Lizzy in Pride & Prejudice, in addition to helping out behind the scenes on several productions. Her other stage credits include Phaedra, Legally Blonde, Lend Me A Tenor, and 100 (Nebraska Wesleyan). Outside of theatre, Christina enjoys karaoke and singing in her friend’s metal band. She would like to thank her mother and father for always believing in her and pushing her to follow her dreams!

HEATH HOWES is an active member of the theatre community here in CO. He’s performed with Openstage for several productions. He is also a scenic painter, fight choreographer, and director. He’s done theatre and film since 1994 and has also done productions in LA and Chicago. He’s glad to have the opportunity to work with Peter Anthony and Openstage once again.

BRADLEY CALAHAN is a local performer and has been with OpenStage since the spring of 2025. He received his Bachelor’s in Theatre Performance from Colorado State University in 2019. There, he performed in multiple shows, including Francis Henshall in One Man Two Guvnors, and directed a production of God of Carnage. Most recently he has performed with OpenStage as Sergeant Trotter in The Mousetrap and Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Bradley loves playing video games, reading sci-fi, and writing when he finds the time. He would like to thank his friends and parents for their undying love and support.

SHANNON LIGHT is a Colorado native and has been working with OpenStage since 2013. She entered the world of theater as an actress, and was later offered additional exciting opportunities to design and style hair, wigs and makeup. As she loves to be both on- and off-stage, you can find her teaching fitness at Pure Barre, or at Tuana Beauty Academy training to become a hair professional. Her most recent credit with OpenStage was in 2023 as the hair/wig designer for Big Fish. Shannon wishes to express her gratitude to Denise Freestone for sharing her knowledge and experience in designing hair/wigs, and even more for encouraging her to take risks, be true to herself, and dream big!

SOPHIE KALEVIK is a lifelong pursuer of the Performing Arts, and is currently a full time Musical Theatre
student at the University of Northern Colorado’s BFA program. Before College, Sophie has
spent time volunteering at children’s theatre groups, volunteering at Thescon and studying
Chekhov, Strindberg and Shakespeare at Visionbox Studio Theatre. Alongside that, she has
had vocal training in choir and Musical theatre from a young age, and has actively been playing
roles at UNCO in The Sound of Music, Something Rotten, Beauty and the Beast, and The
Drowsy Chaperone. Sophie is also actively participating in dance and movement classes and
has performed at UNCO’s Dance Concert, Miranda’s Nightmare. Outside of the University,
Sophie has participated in community Musical Theatre productions like Annie and 9 to 5. Sophie
would like to thank Katy White for recommending OpenStage to her, and to all her wonderful
family, friends and mentors for their support.

LINDSEY GWINNER (Vixen Bride) is thrilled to be making her debut with OpenStage with Dracula. Some of her favorite roles include Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion, Hippolyta, Quince, and Fairy in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Nanny in Baby with the Bathwater, and Ensemble in A Twilight Zone Parody. Outside of theatre, Lindsey has a passion for dance, visual arts, and any craft she can do with her hands. She loves painting and drawing, and has recently fallen for Sashiko stitching, mending, and upcycling thrifted finds into something new. She always has a handful of creative projects in the works and is excited to sink her teeth into this one.

Lance Dewbre is a award-winning public speaker, professional coach, and teacher with more than a decade of experience speaking and presenting, including working with large corporate events in Dallas. My theatre background includes numerous stage productions, including Fiddler on the Roof, and roles ranging from elderly characters to magicians. I also bring more than a decade of West Coast Swing and country dance experience to the stage. Outside of theatre, I enjoy dancing, martial arts, storytelling, traveling, and helping people create meaningful transformation in their lives.

JOHN WILSON states that after many years away from the stage, John is excited to join Openstage Theatre & Company. In the past, John has enjoyed such roles as the King in The King and I, Banquo in Macbeth, Marc Anthony in Julius Cesar, Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, Jigger Cragin in The Carousel, and Mortimer in The Fantastics. Offstage, John enjoys gardening, hiking and camping with his kids, creative writing and playing music. John is especially grateful to his wife Anne, who is going the extra mile at home so he can take some time to reawaken his passion for the theater.

DAVID BELLOW is thrilled to make his debut with OpenStage Theatre and Company. A Colorado-based actor, singer, dancer, choreographer, and teacher, David has spent more than two decades performing throughout the Denver theatre community. Selected credits include The Emcee in Cabaret, Paul in A Chorus Line, Brother Boy in Sordid Lives, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Evil Force in Evil Dead: The Musical, Peanut in Southern Baptist Sissies, Joe Frisco in Dirty Blonde, and Manfred in Sunset Blvd. David’s performance experience spans musical theatre, drama, comedy, cabaret, and burlesque. He is drawn to characters and stories that find humor and heart in the human experience. David dedicates this performance to his friends and family, whose unwavering support, encouragement, and love have carried him through even the hardest moments. He is grateful to share this journey with them and with audiences who keep the magic of live theatre alive.

KIERE GILBERTSON is a Colorado native and versatile performer with a passion for storytelling in all its forms. She has built a diverse career in film for the past 7 years, working as an actor, producer, and, most recently, a screenwriter. Along the way, she has been professionally represented by agents in both Colorado and New Mexico. Her on-screen credits include numerous commercials, short films, and feature films. Kiere’s screenwriting debut, Lovesick, was also named a finalist in Women in Film & Media Colorado (WIFMCO) short screenplay contest in early March. She is thrilled to step back into the theatre world after an 8-year break and can’t wait for you to be part of it!

PETER ANTHONY is a multi-disciplinary theatre artist, director and designer of over a hundred productions staged in Colorado, California, and Oregon. His work ranges from Shakespeare to gritty contemporary drama, from grand opera to multimedia dance theatre creations. He is a playwright and novelist, and is a member of the Dramatist Guild of America. Mr. Anthony’s original works include a rock opera, Ruins (with Perry Sheafor) and Dreamland staged for IMPact Theatre, Speed Of Darkness/Velocity Of Light for the Dance Connection, and Miranda Moon for OpenStage Theatre. In 2020 he wrote and directed his film adaptation of Macbeth, Sleep No More (produced by Factor Five Films) which was accepted
to the Black Swan International Film Festival, and the London Movie Awards. Mr. Anthony holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in directing from The University of California, Irvine, where he studied with the internationally acclaimed director, Jerzy Grotowski.

AMANDA FYOCK has worked with OpenStage previously in Clue: On Stage, Big Fish: small cast edition, Reefer Madness, and The 39 Steps. She is a structural drafter by day, but when she’s not sitting at a computer she is an aerialist, training and performing aerial sling, lyra, and other circus apparatuses. She is involved in several board game communities and playtests brand new board games.

IVAN ANDRADE wears many hats, and he wears them well! With a background spanning construction, business development and management, and a variety of artistic endeavors, he brings a unique blend of practical skills and creative flair to OpenStage. He’s been an invaluable asset behind the scenes, contributing to numerous productions. Ivan has lent his expertise as an assistant to the lead carpenters, an assistant to technical directors, and has taken on the role of Properties designer and builder for Reefer Madness and lead carpenter for The Minutes. July 2025 he accepted the position of Technical Director jumping in with gusto! He designed and led the build on three shows, Misery, The Mousetrap and Merry Wives of Windsor, with The Mousetrap receiving a nomination for a Henry Award for Set Designer.

ANNA EPSTEIN has worked in live events for 26 years but fell in love with theater at the age of 6. She has worked concerts, weddings, inaugurations, awards, television and her favorite, live theater. Most recently she made her directorial debut with the FCCT+ Places Everyone! production of The Prom! Anna is thrilled to be joining the OpenStage team for this production!

REBECCA SPAFFORD is indebted to Oberon, King of the Fairies, for introducing her to Colorado theatre over 20 years ago; it’s a story that continues to unfold. She has worked with David Bowie, Mickey Mouse, Big Bird, and Cirque du Soleil, and has also toured with Yo Gabba Gabba and SuperWhy. OpenStage is her creative home. Some of her favorite acting roles are Agnes in Bug, Karen in August: Osage County, Tanya Shepke in The North Plan and Jo/Mae West in Dirty Blonde. She loves designing costumes and hair/wigs and has been teaching these skills at Fossil Ridge High School for 10 years. Rebecca is honored to have received the Colorado Theatre Guild’s Henry Award for Outstanding Costume Design (Tier 2) for Dangerous Liaisons, The Crucible, and Murder on the Orient Express, all with OpenStage. Her favorite recognition is receiving the OpenStage Founders’ Award, which is awarded for outstanding long-term contributions to the Company. Rebecca would like to thank all the numerous hands, hearts, and glue gun victims that volunteer on her projects to bring them to life!

LIBBY SHELSTAD is a Costume and Set Designer known for her creative and innovative designs for theater. Libby began designing sets and lighting for local theaters in 2000, and transitioned into costume design in 2016. After designing over a dozen sets and another dozen shows for costumes, she made the decision in 2023 to leave behind her career in health care to pursue theatrical design professionally. She is a graduate of Colorado State University, with a BA in Theater Costume Design Technology and Set Design. She was selected to Design costumes for Opera and Theater at CSU and in the Fort Collins Community, and Properties Design for CSU Theater. She currently works as a freelance designer for theaters and private clients.

MACKENZIE LOWE is thrilled to be back with OpenStage, sharing her passion for enhancing storytelling and artistic vision through lighting with such a talented cast and crew. She holds a B.A. in Theatrical Design/Technology from the University of Northern Colorado and has over a decade of experience in the live entertainment industry. MacKenzie has worked on a wide range of events, from theatrical productions to live concerts and festivals. Known for her innovative designs, technical precision, and collaborative spirit, her work captivates audiences and evokes emotion. Past OpenStage productions include The Minutes, Big Fish and Hedwig, while recent projects include A Walk in the Woods, All is Calm, Beautiful, Jersey Boys, Margaritaville, and Beauty and the Beast. Outside of her design work, MacKenzie is passionate about mentoring future technicians and designers, passing on her knowledge and experience. When she’s not immersed in lighting, she loves spending time with family and traveling.

VICTORIA VILLALOBOS has loved the magic of theatre since she was a child and feels lucky to still be playing behind the scenes! Over the years, she has worn many hats with OpenStage Theatre & Company, including Sound Designer and Engineer, Makeup and Hair Designer and Stylist, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, and more. Victoria has also found a theatrical home with Fort Collins Children’s Theatre, working on the past nine productions – most recently as Makeup Designer, Hair Designer, and Stylist for The Wizard of Oz. Next up is Willy Wonka in November 2026! She is incredibly honored to have received three Henry Award nominations for Outstanding Sound Design with OpenStage: The Book of Will (2024), The 39 Steps (2025), and Misery (2025). Victoria sends lots of love and thanks to her family and friends for always cheering her on!

JAMES BURNS graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Theatre Arts in 1997. He worked at the Arvada Center during the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons as a scenic painter and technician before moving to New York City. He stage managed On Love and Lies and Square One at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Box of Fools for the 2005 American Living Room Festival in NYC. Since moving back to Fort Collins in 2010, James has worked extensively with both OpenStage Theatre and Bas Bleu as an actor, fight choreographer and scenic artist. He appeared onstage most recently as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, Phillip Lombard in And Then There Were None, Steve Heidebrecht in August: Osage County, Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew,The Husband in Stage Kiss, Austin in True West and Sharky in The Seafarer, all with OpenStage Theatre. In addition, James recently co-directed OpenStage’s Sherwood and directed etcetera’s productions of Fool for Love and Christmas Chaos. He sends thanks to his wife, Jessica and love to his daughters, Scarlett and Sterling.

Kate Austin–Gröen (she/her) is a director, producer, intimacy director, and actor with over 35 years of theatre experience. As a director, she has helmed productions ranging from classics to contemporary works, including The Wizard of Oz, Treasure Island, Tiny Beautiful Things, The Full Monty, and Falsettoland. She currently serves as Resident Intimacy Director at OpenStage Theatre & Company, where she has also directed and production-managed numerous shows. As an actor, Kate’s favorite roles include Nora in A Doll’s House, Part 2, Adriana in The Comedy of Errors, and Dr. Charlotte in Falsettoland. Her training spans acting, voice, dance, and aerial arts, and she developed the Observation and Re-Creation (OaR) technique to help actors embody emotion with physical specificity and sustainability. Beyond the stage, Kate has been deeply involved in community arts leadership and advocacy, committed to building theatre that is bold, inclusive, and joyfully collaborative.

JACOB OFFEN has played many roles at OpenStage Theatre & Company – actor, staff member, board member, and now director and Producing Artistic Director. Misery marks his directorial debut at OpenStage. Jacob taught Acting at the University of Houston during his tenure as an MFA candidate, and recently at the University of Northern Colorado. He designed a comprehensive curriculum rooted in Stanislavsky, Hagen, Meisner, Roy Heart and Cecily Berry, and coached actors in scene work/audition preparation. Further, Jacob has created acting, voice, and Shakespearean text workshops at the Texas Shakespeare Festival, Houston Shakespeare Festival, and for acting students of all ages. While he served as the Company Development Administrator (2011 – 2015), he produced and directed entertainment for OST&C’s spring fundraisers (Casino Royal: The Sting, Viva Las Vegas, Oceans 11, le Cirque Rouge!). He is thrilled to put his years of experience as a performer and teaching artist to work for Misery and for many future productions to come!

STEVEN DIETZ, For the ’24-25 season, Steven Dietz was once again named one of the “20 Most Produced Playwrights in America” by American Theatre Magazine. His 40-plus plays and adaptations have been seen at over 100 regional theatres, as well as off-Broadway and in 25 countries internationally. Recent premieres include new adaptations of Gaslight by Patrick Hamilton and Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie, as well as the serio-comic thriller How a Boy Falls. Other recent work includes Vineland Place, Mirror Lake and Vial Man (The Apothecary’s Story). His widely-produced play Shooting Star was adapted by Dietz, Kirk Lynn and Meg Ryan into the movie What Happens Later, starring Ms. Ryan. Awards include the Steinberg New Play Citation for Bloomsday, the Kennedy Center New American Plays Award for Fiction and the Edgar Award® for Best Mystery Play for Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. He lives in Seattle and Austin.

BRAM STOKER, Irish author Abraham “Bram” Stoker was born in Clontarf, Ireland, on November 8, 1847. He studied history, literature, mathematics, and physics at Trinity College, Dublin, where he was named University Athlete, despite a recurring illness that confined him to his bed as a child. After graduating with honors in Mathematics, Stoker began working as a civil servant in Dublin Castle. During his eight years there, he published short stories, including “The Crystal Cup” and “The Chain of Destiny,” and worked as a critic for Dublin’s “Evening Mail” and as an editor of “The Irish Echo.” In 1878, Stoker moved to London with his wife after Sir Henry Irving offered him the position of business manager at his Lyceum Theatre. In London, Stoker published his first book, “Under the Sunset” (1882), a collection of fairy tales, and in 1890 he published his first novel, “The Snake’s Pass.” He began researching for “Dracula” the same year, and in 1897, it was published. The novel brought Stoker international acclaim and has since been adapted numerous times for the stage and the screen. Stoker continued to write until his death in 1912. His other works include “The Jewel of Seven Stars,” “Personal Reminiscences of Henry Irving,” and “The Lair of the White Worm.”
