Jordan takes the stage for the very first time with OpenStage in October Surprise!

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into theatre?
I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. It’s always been my passion.
How did you first hear about OpenStage, and what drew you to work with us for this show?

I originally heard about OpenStage from another actress who is in the show this season, Louis, while working with her on Native Gardens at Bas Bleu. I was planning on auditioning for the upcoming season this year, but I was also reached out to by the director and playwright Miguel.

What is your role in this production, and what excited you most about working on this particular production?

I will be playing Maria in this production. I’m truly excited to get on stage and work with this cast. It has been a dream working with everyone in this production.

What has been the most enjoyable or unexpected part of the rehearsal process so far?
I think the communication has been amazing in this show. We touch on a lot of delicate subject matter, so having the communication as open as it is between the cast and the production team has been an amazing part of this process.
What has been the most challenging part of bringing this character to life?
I think the vulnerability that Maria brings to the show has been very challenging for me. I never get the opportunity to play characters who show this much vulnerability so it’s definitely been a challenge but one that I am strangely glad to have.
What has been different or interesting about working on a new play?

This is the second new work that I have had the honor to be a part of this year. I think when it comes to new works there’s a level of freedom and discovery you get with your character that I feel you don’t always get with plays that have been produced throughout the years.

Why do you think October Surprise is significant or relevant to audiences today?

October Surprise is relevant for today’s world considering how politics can drive a wedge between family members. It really touches on that divide between family and personal values.

What is your favorite play or musical?

Call me back if you want, but right now I have to say Hadestown is a beautifully written musical. I absolutely adore it.

Is there a dream role or type of production you hope to work on in the future?

I would love to be in so many things but if I had to pick one Esmeralda has always been a dream.

September 28-October 12

A World Premiere by Miguel Muñoz! In the midst of a high-tension Texas senate race, a political crisis at the border, and a sibling rivalry, Maria, a passionate, strong-willed immigration lawyer and activist is running against her brother Antonio, the new charismatic face of conservatism. When Maria uncovers a secret that could decimate her brother’s campaign and his life, she must decide if her family ties mean more than her ideals. October Surprise is a heart-wrenching look at the disparity between family loyalty and personal convictions in America.
