Sophie Kalevik makes her OpenStage debut in Dracula!

Please tell us bit about your background and how you got into theatre!

I started theatre officially at around five years old in a little ballet production of Beauty and the Beast, and haven’t looked back since. Over the past nine years I have been actively studying and pursuing Theatre and Musical Theatre professionally and have spent the last 3 years studying Musical Theatre at UNCO’s BFA MT program.

What is your role in this show, and what excites you most about working on this particular production?

I play one of Dracula’s Vixen Brides, and I’m most excited to fulfill my lifelong dream of being a vampire and spill some well deserved blood.

What has been a memorable part of the rehearsal process so far?

I have truly enjoyed getting to know my fellow cast members and watching the show progress at each rehearsal.

What has been the most fun or interesting part of bringing your characters to life?

The most exciting thing about my character is just how wonderfully dramatic and unforgiving she is, and there is one “certain” moment at the end of act one that I’m particularly excited for y’all to see…

What is your favorite moment or scene in the show, and why does it stand out to you?
Having the opportunity of seeing all the visual elements come together in this show is one of the most exciting elements about the rehearsal process!
What is your favorite play and/or musical, and why?
My favorite musical is definitely The Phantom of the Opera.
Is there a dream role or type of production you hope to work on in the future?

My dream role would definitely be Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd and literally any of the Heathers.

What do you like to do in your free time (when you’re not working on theatre projects?)
When I’m not performing I enjoy sewing and building my own cosplays (POP Culture Costumes) and I am working on writing and publishing my first novel.
