Debuting Artist: Anna Epstein

Anna has joined the crew for the very first time with OpenStage this season!

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into theatre?
My mother was a huge theatre lover and took me to all kinds of performances from a young age. I started performing at 6yrs old and then got my first taste of tech work in 7th grade running lights for my school musical. I then started working in live entertainment at 18yrs old and never looked back. I now have a 27 year career in all things live performance and can’t wait for the next 20!
How did you first hear about OpenStage, and what drew you to work with us for this show?
When we first moved here in summer of 2024, we got to see the summer OpenStage production one week after arriving. We absolutely loved it. I then started working with Fort Collins Children’s Theatre and met many with OpenStage through that work. I also got to work with Director Kate and Assistant Director Jen last fall on The Wizard of Oz and had a fantastic experience. So when Kate asked me to join her on this adventure it was a very easy YES!
Merry Wives of Windsor isn’t your debut with OpenStage, The Cottage was. What was that experience like?
I had an absolute blast working with everyone involved with The Cottage. I felt supported on my first show, and I was thrilled to watch the incredible cast work their comedy magic all of tech week. Just an all-around fabulous experience.
Who was your favorite character in The Cottage? Why them?
This is not a fair question, lol! I loved every character for multiple reasons… But I would have to say Beau. The physicality Jake brought to this character makes him just that much more hilarious.
What was your favorite moment/scene in The Cottage?
My favorite moments were the ones of pure chaos. The actors did such a brilliant job of bouncing off of each other.
What is your role in The Merry Wives of Windsor, and what excited you most about working on this particular production?
I am the Stage Manager for The Merry Wives of Windsor. I had the pleasure of working with Kate (Director) and Jen (Asst. Director) last fall on The Wizard of Oz and I am super excited to be working with them again. I am looking forward to seeing this show come together from start to finish.
What has been the most enjoyable or unexpected part of the rehearsal or preparation process so far?
I really enjoyed the read through. Getting to hear the cast read together for the first time is always a wonderful experience for me.
What makes The Merry Wives of Windsor a unique kind of play to work on?
We are doing live theater outdoors in a very unique location. But I think the Director’s vision for this production is what will be the most unique part. I can’t wait for people to see it.
What is your favorite play or musical?
I would have to say Romeo & Juliet. I am more of a musical nut and my favorite musical is RENT… though I have several faves.
What upcoming projects or roles are you excited about?
I am very excited (and absolutely terrified) to be auditioning to be IN a show for the first time in 32yrs. How could I resist a chance at performing in Jagged Little Pill!?!
What do you like to do in your free time, when you’re not working on theatre projects?
I love being in nature and also love a good movie!
