 | Judith Allen | | Assoc Artistic Dir/openstage etc Prod Artistic Dir | | JUDITH ALLEN most recently directed OpenStage Theatre's productions of As You Like It and Noises Off, the latter of which garnered a Denver Post Ovation Award nomination for Best Comedy and won the OpenStage Opus Awards for Best Play and Best Director. She is the recipient of numerous nominations and awards for direction for recent productions of The Drawer Boy, Picnic, Romeo & Juliet, Henry IV and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, as well as for her acting as Leigh in Splitting Infinity, Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Chris Gorman in Rumors and for her design work as a make-up artist. Judi is the Associate Artistic Director for OpenStage Theatre & Company and also serves as a Producing Artistic Director for openstage etc. She is an ex-officio member of the OpenStage Board of Directors and was awarded the 2001 OpenStage Founders Award for outstanding contributions to the Company. |  | Denise Burson Freestone | | Producing Artistic Director/Founder | | DENISE BURSON FREESTONE co-founded OpenStage Theatre in 1973 with her husband Bruce and serves as Producing Artistic Director for the Company. During her extensive theatrical career Denise has worked as an actress, director, producer, designer, technician and dancer and has directed and performed in numerous OpenStage Theatre productions. Some of her most memorable acting roles include Amanda Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie, Sister Aloysius in Doubt, Dotty in Noises Off, Annabella Gotchling in A Bright Room Called Day, Hannah in Angels in America, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and Professor Vivian Bearing in Wit, for which she received Special Mention in The Denver Post Ovation Awards, Best Local Actress in the Fort Collins Coloradoan Best of Fort Collins and the OpenStage Theatre OPUS Award for Best Actress. Recent directing credits include Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, The Threepenny Opera, The Women and Proof. Under the Freestone's leadership, OpenStage Theatre has received numerous awards, including the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts. Bruce and Denise are the 2003 recipients of the prestigious Tree of Peace Medallion from Arts Alive Fort Collins. |  | Bruce K. Freestone | | Assoc Producing Director/Founder | | BRUCE K. FREESTONE has been an outspoken advocate for the performing arts in Colorado for nearly forty years. Co-founder with his wife Denise in 1973 of OpenStage Theatre & Company, he has served as director, designer, actor and technician. In addition, Bruce is the Company's Producing Director and an ex officio member of the Board of Directors. He serves as the Technical Coordinator for CSU's Lory Student Center; is a member of I.A.T.S.E., the international stagehands union; has worked behind the camera with several major studios on Colorado film locations; and has performed in countless commercials, instructional films and videos, and at industrial trade shows. He has appeared in numerous OpenStage productions, most recently in Noises Off, Enchanted April, The Solid Gold Cadillac and Angels in America. He has directed several OpenStage productions and directed The Sound of Music for Fort Collins Children's Theatre in fall 2005. Bruce serves on the Board of Directors for Beet Street and was the 2003 recipient with Denise of the prestigious Tree of Peace Medallion from Arts Alive Fort Collins. |  | Sydney Parks | | openstage etc Producing Artistic Director | | SYDNEY PARKS has been on stage since the age of six. She studied acting at HB Studio in New York City for three-and-a-half years and toured as Mary in The Secret Garden with Chicago's Windy City Players. Sydney has performed extensively with OpenStage Theatre, appearing most recently as Belinda in Noises Off, Janice in Italian American Reconciliation, Agnes Eggling in A Bright Room Called Day, Sylvia Fowler in The Women, Claire in Proof (2004 OPUS Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role), Gina in Who Will Carry the Word? and Susie Monahan in Wit. She has appeared with openstage etc as Catherine in Boston Marriage, Maddie in Desperate Affection, Valerie in The Weir and Bernadette in Raised in Captivity, among others; and with Bas Bleu Theatre as Inez in No Exit and Elsie in What I Did Last Summer. She was the Director for last season's Dirty Blonde and served as Assistant Director for Romeo and Juliet and Rumors. Sydney has designed hair for numerous OpenStage productions, including Picnic, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, A Perfect Ganesh, Macbeth (OPUS Award for Best Hair Design), Laughter on the 23rd Floor, The Mousetrap and The Tempest (OPUS for Best Hair Design). She is a Producing Artistic Director for openstage etc and directed its productions of Cakewalk and True West. Sydney also teaches theatre at Debut Theatre and Spring Creek Country Day School. Sydney was named 2006 Best Supporting Actress in a Comedic Role by Denver Westword for her performance in Italian American Reconciliation. Sydney would like to thank Harry for keeping her on the bus when she tries to get off at Crazy Town. |  | Dan Weitz | | Company Manager | | DAN WEITZ has been acting in Fort Collins for thirty-five years, including serving as Company Manager for OpenStage Theatre for the past seven seasons. He was seen most recently as Gary Gaugher in the critically acclaimed production of The Exonerated, and as Finbar Mack in openstage etc's The Weir. Other roles with OpenStage Theatre include Glenn Cooper in Rumors, The Visitor in Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Bert Jefferson in The Man Who Came to Dinner, and in openstage etc's WASP by Steve Martin, among others. Dan wrote, directed and performed in OpenStage's 1999 First Night Fort Collins production of 100 Movies in Fifteen MInutes. Featured roles also include The Art of Dining, Daddy's Dyin,' Who's Got the Will? and Larry/Scrooge in Inspecting Carol. An OpenStage Company member since 1989, Dan also has appeared with Bas Bleu Theatre, Colorado State University Cafe Theatre, Fort Collins Children's Theatre, the Country Club Dinner Theatre and Foothills Civic Theatre. |  | L. Michael Scovel | | Company Representative to the Board | | L. MICHAEL SCOVEL began acting at the age of twelve, performing in the Boy’s Band in The Music Man. He trained as an actor at Boston University and the University of Northern Iowa, where he performed the role of Silvius in As You Like It. He has performed locally with OpenStage Theatre & Company, The Dance Connection, Canyon Concert Ballet, IMPACTheatre, Foothills Civic Theatre, Rabbit Hole Radio Theatre, Opera Fort Collins, openstage etc and Bas Bleu Theatre. Notable past roles include Kerry Max Cook in The Exonerated (for which he won an All-State acting award from the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition), Leontes in The Winter’s Tale, Banquo in Macbeth, Lord Capulet in Romeo & Juliet, Brick in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Starbuck in The Rainmaker and the title role in Rasputin. He appeared most recently as Lloyd Dallas in OpenStage Theatre’s production of Noises Off and as Adam in the Bas Bleu production of Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me. Lenny also serves as the Company Representative on the OpenStage Board of Directors. When not on stage, Lenny is a professional woodworker and enjoys his family, working on his house and playing board games. |  | Gale McGaha Miller | | Company Secretary | | GALE MCGAHA MILLER has performed in radio theater, independent films and on stage locally with OpenStage Theatre, Bas Bleu, Nonesuch and Marrow Productions. She appeared most recently with OpenStage Theatre as the Bag Lady/Mrs. Luce in Little Shop of Horrors. Favorite roles include Rachel in Pantaglieze, Karen in Dinner With Friends and Madame Olinsky in Rasputin. A chemist by day, Gale also has run lights and sound and has served as stage manager for numerous productions. |  | Brenna Freestone | | Company Development Administrator | | BRENNA FREESTONE was born and raised in Fort Collins and spent three years training in Los Angeles. While in L.A. she had the honor of studying with Perviz Sawoski and appeared under her direction in William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, performing in two roles as well as serving as Dance Captain for the Bharata Natyam themed performance. Some of Brenna's favorite roles include Essie in You Can't Take It With You (1998 OpenStage OPUS Award for Best Supporting Actress), Mrs. Chevely in An Ideal Husband (2006 OPUS for Best Actress), both with OpenStage, and Marjorie in Extremities with openstage etc (2005 OPUS for Best Actress). She appeared most recently as Celia in OpenStage Theatre's As You Like It and as numerous roles in The Book of Liz. Additional favorites are Kattrin in Mother Courage, Laura in The Glass Menagerie and Estelle in No Exit with Bas Bleu Theatre. She made her directorial debut with openstage etc's production of Boy Gets Girl and also directed Brighton Beach Memoirs for Limelight Theatre. Brenna is the Company Development Director for OpenStage Theatre. She met her soul mate Andrew through OpenStage, and the two are enjoying their roles as parents to their son Felix Aedan. |  | Emelie Borello | | openstage etc Producing Artistic Director | | EMELIE BORELLO is in her sixth season with OpenStage Theatre and finds that it just gets better and better. She has worked extensively with openstage etc, for whom she directed Swimming in the Shallows and Rag and Bone, as well as serving as producer for True West and The Shape of Things. Emelie is a Producing Artistic Director for openstage etc and served as the Assistant Director for Man of la Mancha and co-designed make-up for Little Shop of Horrors. She wishes to express what a joy it is to be a member of OpenStage Theatre & Company and looks forward to discovering just how good it can get! |
